Privacy Policy

The short version

Semnia does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal data. It has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. It contains no networking code for sending your content anywhere, because there is nowhere to send it: no Semnia server exists.

Everything the app does — reading the text in your screenshots, searching it, sorting it into topics, and matching screenshots to the pages they came from — happens on your device.

What stays on your device

• Your screenshots. Semnia keeps its own optimized copy of each screenshot inside its own app container, so your library stays usable even if you clear the originals out of Photos.
• The text inside them. Text is recognised using Apple's on-device recognition and stored in a search index in the app's container.
• Page addresses. When a screenshot can be matched to a page you were browsing, that page's address is stored alongside it.
• Your own edits. Topics, crop lines, saved collages and deletions.

All of it lives in Semnia's own storage on your device. It is included in whatever backup you already use for your phone — Apple's iCloud Backup or a computer backup — and it is governed by that backup's own protections, not by us.

Photos

Semnia asks for access to your photo library so it can find your screenshots and read them. It reads them. It does not modify, move or delete anything in your Photos library.

The Safari extension

Semnia includes an optional Safari extension. It is off until you switch it on, and the app works without it.

When it is on, it records the address of the page and the time you were on it into a small local log shared between the extension and the app on your device. That log is what lets a screenshot be matched to the page it came from. It is never transmitted, and there is no destination it could be transmitted to. It is not your browsing history: entries are kept only long enough to match recent screenshots and are pruned as they age.

iOS shows a strong warning when you enable any Safari extension, saying it can read and alter the web pages you visit. That warning is written for all extensions. Semnia's extension reads the page address and the time, and nothing else. It alters nothing.

Links, and what the app admits it doesn't know

A page address is attached to a screenshot only when there is real evidence for it. When the evidence is ambiguous, Semnia stores no link rather than a guess, and it shows you the difference: a green dot means the exact page, a grey dot means only the site, no dot means no link. The app never implies it knows more about a screenshot than it does.

Purchases

Semnia is free to download and fully functional on your newest 500 screenshots. A single optional purchase unlocks the rest of your library.

That purchase is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple's purchase sheet is the only network connection the app ever makes. We never see your name, your payment details or your Apple Account — we receive only Apple's ordinary aggregated sales reports, which do not identify anyone. Apple's handling of the transaction is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Third parties

There are none. No analytics provider, no crash reporter, no advertising network, no third-party SDK of any kind is embedded in Semnia.

Children

Semnia is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, regardless of age.

Your rights over your data

Because we hold none of it, there is nothing for us to hand over, correct or erase. Your data is on your device and under your control:

• Export it. Settings → Archive writes a single file containing everything the app has learned, which you can move to another phone or keep yourself. This is free at any library size.
• Delete it. Deleting the app removes Semnia's copies, its search index and its page log from your device. Your Photos library is unaffected.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and the previous behaviour is not applied retroactively to data already on your device.
